Norwegian dancers Ulf Arne Johanssen and Margit Myher moved the Dhaka audience
through the colourful by folk dance recitals. Local dancers also
performed with the Norwegian duo at the programme on Sunday at the Sawkat Osman
auditorium of the Central Public Library on Sunday, which was basically an
output of a five-day workshop on traditional Norwegian dance conducted by Ulf
Arne Johanssen and Margit Myher.
The programme also featured a traditional Santal
dance form of Bangladesh, composed by local composer Sharmila Bandapadhyay, in
which the Norwegian dancers also performed. Dancers, sometimes in groups, sometimes
in pairs and sometimes in solos, presented different types of traditional
Norwegian dance forms.
The event began with traditional a Norwegian dance recital called as Polka in which couples holding each other’s hands danced in circle. Another attraction of the evening was Springer, a very old yet popular dance in Norway, which was also presented in pairs following the tradition.

They also performed Ring dance in which artistes
formed two rings, one within another, and danced synchronised with the melody of
accordion played by Ulf Arne Johanssen.
Ulf Arne Johanssen and Margit Myher also performed a solo dance and a solo music respectively.
